Fire prevention in the Home

Burn Injury has been a part of Indian society since its inception. As our world becomes increasingly digitized, the chance that a spark could start a flame increases greatly. For this reason it is incredibly important to take steps to protect yourself in the event that fire strikes your home and family.
Some of these steps may seem obvious but it is amazing how the simplicity in them gets overlooked by the lot of individuals. Here are some of the steps:
1. Read and Follow all warning signs and labels
When buying or using a new product or home appliance. It is important to understand that the warnings signs and labels are there to protect you and your family. Chances are that the product you have purchased has been tested and retested for safety, quality, and value. If they have placed a safety label on the product for you, it means that they understand the dangers of using the product.
2. Maintain household appliances properly
Proper maintenance of household appliances ensures that your product is working the way it should. Buildup of excess material can clog vital causeways to help your product function. Especially with gas-powered and electrical appliances, bad maintenance practices translate into a higher chance of receiving a burn injury.
3. Have a fire marshal inspect your home of fire safety
A fire marshal knows the specific situations that lead to fires in homes today. He can do a comprehensive walk-through of your home, explaining the current hazards and suggesting ways to increase the overall fire safety of your home. He will make sure that things like the fire extinguisher and smoke detector are working properly.
4. Have a safety plan in the event of fire and practice it
Having a safety plan is probably the best thing you can do for your family. This plan would outline the nearest exits, how to exit and where to meet after everyone is out of the building. The second component which ensures its success is practicing the plan. Once your family practices the plan, they will be better able and more prepared in the event a fire actually takes place.
5. Stay Informed
Having lots of information and turning it into something you can use to protect your family is another good way of prevent a fire. Be sure to inform your children about fire prevention as well, this way the entire family will be well-armed against fire.
These are just a few of the ways you can protect your family against fire. But for those who aren't as lucky and have suffered great loss due to fire, it may not be your fault.
